(according to the astrology of her natal chart)
Part One
As I mentioned in my previous post, I have decided to take a more detailed look at Kamala Harris who will probably be nominated to run for Presidency in the US elections later this year. This post is written for those with little or no knowledge of astrology, but who are keen to understand the science behind it. I attach her natal chart and include the degrees of the planets for those who have a more in-depth knowledge. If you are interested in learning astrology basics or wish to learn about your own chart, sign up for my online beginners’ course starting this September. (See below.)
When interpreting a natal chart one has to start with analysis of certain details. It is only after this that these points of knowledge are merged into a natal chart analysis. For example, just saying that the Sun is in Libra will provide little information without understanding how the Sun’s energy feels in this position. Placements can be favourable or challenging. Let me take you through some points of Kamala Harris’s chart step by step in this five part analysis.
First, we look at the Ascendant (Asc. in the chart look for As) or Rising Sign and the Sun (in the chart look for ☉). The Ascendant describes how others see you; it is the mask you wear, your outward personality and how you navigate your environment. The Sun on the other hand is about your personality, how you feel in your environment, what you like or dislike, what you are good at. It also shows your vitality and life force and your sense of self.
Harris’s Asc. is at 24 degrees of Gemini (in the chart look for ♊︎) .  In whole sign astrology each zodiac sign is 30 degrees in size and represents a specific topic or House. The Asc. is always in the 1st House, the House of Self and is one of the most important Houses in the chart. With the Asc. in Gemini Harris will be seen as a curious person who can adapt to new situations, who is versatile, engages in intellectual pursuits and has the potential to develop excellent communication skills.
Harris’s Sun is in her 5th House at 27 degrees of Libra (in the chart look for ♎︎). What does this mean? With the Sun in Libra this is a person looking for harmony and balance, who likes to connect with others, likes socializing, may work in law, public relations. On the negative side, the Sun in Libra can also indicate an indecisive person. Libra is ruled by the planet Venus – symbolizing creativity, beauty and balance and in wanting to keep the peace, often finds it difficult to take sides or be strong in one’s own convictions. The Sun is also weak in Libra – this is because Libra is an air sign and it is considered incompatible with the strong rays of the Sun. This can result in a person with a lack of confidence, someone who doubts their own ability to shine.
Finally in this section we look at the 5th House which is where her natal Sun is located. The 5th House is akin to a stage – these are people who need to be seen, need to be noticed and have a flair for drama or sports. Harris innately needs to shine and be in a visible role.
In my next post I’ll look at the aspects or connections Harris’s Asc. forms with other points in her chart and then we’ll move on to the other placements.
